- Our Story -

Founded and incorporated in October 2008, Pagsung is a network of 40 Shea nut pickers and Shea butter producing groups working under a co-operative model. The group is owned and managed by the members themselves in a democratic way instituted and agreed on by all. Pagsung exists to empower women by improving their socio-economic wellbeing through the production of Shea and other local products within the Northern, Upper East and Upper West regions of Ghana, home to the countrys’ most economically challenged.

Shea butter is processed from the kernals of a shea tree. Shea trees are indigenous to the semi-arid savanna of West Africa. The history of shea butter dates back to the 14th century. It has superior moisturizing, regenerative, and medicinal properties. Shea butter has been used since ancient times as an edible oil, medicine, cream, and soap base.
